"The City is my Canvas"

Its pretty rare that one will find stake boarders in Westbury, to be honest I don't think Westbury has ever been open to it. They skate while the afternoon traffic goes on its daily routes, people walking around going about their business and I am pretty sure you do get people who see it and would question it. lol.
I for one actually admire the fact that some kids are moving away from the norm of hanging on a corner, chilling just letting time pass. I see it as an openness towards doing something different which i feel is something our youth do not do.

" I see the city as my canvas, and I feel that every person can shape his/hers environment..
So picture life as been a blank canvas, and start painting that master piece.
Cause at the end of the day in my view, you only have one life and no one but you has to live it"

"Kids"

The past 2 weeks was one of those periods where all you read and hear about is innocent Kids dying, all around the world. I am pretty troubled by the manner in which kids loose their lives.
The result: I find myself contradicting so many things based on the so called "Norm of Society".
But not only that, "Humanity" its self.

Who do you blame?what do you blame?
can you even blame anything or anyone?

Death is the only thing promised, but its sad to the how cruel humans can be,

"But i feel if everyone has just a little bit of love in them towards the next person,
this World would be pretty much a little bit of a better Place"

Children are the future of this world, i don't think any parent should lay their child to rest.

Feeding Scheme?

All round my area you will hear or find a feeding scheme.
Kids from all over the area and even surrounding areas will visit to receive ether a plate of food,
a few biscuits and a simple glass of juice.

At this specific feeding scheme the kids receive biscuits and juice, and over
the past few months the number in kids have grown.

It may seem the simplest thing to stand in a line for.
Does it give a picture on the poverty level in our community?,
or does that biscuits and juice just make a child's day a bit better?

we'll never know...

but i believe when you do a good deed really from the heart,
you will feel a true warmth in seeing a child smile.

The Human Condition

My whole week I experienced something regarding the human condition.
My two year old niece speaking like a "Big Woman",
A small boy at soccer practice playing with bleeding toes,
and then The Elderly man in a wheelchair fixing a stove.

so what can stop you??

My view is nothing.

The only limits you have is the one's you give yourself.
The minute you take yourself out of your comfort zone, is the minute
you realize and uncover your true ability.

Know, Understand, and Accept yourself.

BE YOU.

"The Future is yours"

Regardless of what happens..Life goes on.
We would not know the reason, regardless of the questions we might ask,
but for some reason there is always something that would restore a Smile.

Times may be very tough, and money may be none.
But the little and most simplest things in life are Free.

We are not all the same, but we all have the ability to shine regardless of the storm.
"If you believe it"

"Jozi at 4am"

Saturday I spent my morning in the Central Business District of Johannesburg.
4am - 8am.

As you walk through the streets one can sense the Life in that place from 4am the morning.
Taxi's starting their days shift. People making their way to the train stations.
Then the occasional "previous nights drunkenness" individuals.

But the amount of Homeless stood out like a sour thumb.
Like body bags spread out on the streets of Johannesburg.
Some streets were very quiet, but some streets were filled with people sleeping.
What an experience at that time of the morning.
But really sad in its own sense.

"Don't capture with emotion"

Below are some images taken during my time spent in Jozi at 4am - 8am.

"Waiting for work"

"Jeppe Station"

"Proudly South African"

Don't Judge:

I saw this lady and thought it would be cool to capture this.

But When analyzing the image I felt so confused,
so many questions ran through my head.

A Photographer once told me, when you capture something leave your emotions out of it.
I struggled with that phrase for a few weeks, and when taking this image it hit me.

When your purpose is to tell a story, you should do just that regardless.

I for one do not know this Lady,
but it is not for me to judge just by what she is doing.

We might not know the reason why, when and how.
We might not be the same.
But regardless of Race, Gender and Creed.
We All Human.

pic of the day

Beautiful game of Football.

A game I have been playing all my life.
Just like many other boy's in Westbury.

I stand to be corrected,
But I feel soccer is the most played sport.
The Elderly people would say it keeps the kids off the street,
and I have come across these words a few times before:
"A child in sport is a child out of court."

Regardless of where you go, any where in the world, if there is a ball around, somebody is going to kick it.
or just use the Government issued dustbins and turn the parking lot of "The Flats"
into your stadium. :-)

Newclare Primary School.

WYC - (westbury youth centre), spent a few days assisting the school with cleaning and packing books for their Library.
I spent a few hours taking images of the school, WYC, and the students.

This image was taken shortly after their break.

In the school hall,
there are posters of Tata Madiba EVERYWHERE!!

“ As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

"The Flats"

Across Westbury you will find these four/three story low budget housing buildings
stand up above everything else.
Some people would never dream of staying here.
but to some, this is called Home.
But the thing that caught my attention, is that at roughly 10 am a Friday morning when i took this image.
There was so much life!!
Kids voices, footsteps, echos, music, dogs barking, ALLES.(everything).
Everyone Knows Everyone.

Regardless of the up and downs..which we all respectively have.
What you make of what you have will define your:
minute, day, week, month, year, Life!

Live Life Happily Regardless.

Corronationville Training Center

(a center for children with disabilities)

Two of their students received wheelchairs as a donation.
I do not know their exact disability,
but i asked myself one question:

Why as human beings do we down-grade other human being's for what ever reason it may be?

is it human nature?

or is it that they probably have something that we don't have,  and what they have may be the same thing we seek in our lives?

Like "Peace with who I am, and nothing will take my happiness away regardless of who and what i am"

Change brings Growth.
and it is never to late for Change.
God bless.

Monday 3 March 2014

I came across an elderly lady painting her wall.
She refused that I capture her front.
When overlooking the image, I remembered one thing that I have heard a few times by a few woman before.
"If you want it done right..do it yourself."
